they gave $8,500 in grants to the following:
* $3,500 towards building the first Habitat for Humanity home in Jackson County.
Alliance Pipeline made a $25,000 challenge pledge to the community to raise funds for the project.

Piggly Wiggly: Voluntary BEEF Recall

Fresh Brands Distributing Incorporated says it’s voluntarily recalling certain ground beef products sold by its Piggly Wiggly stores, including one in Maquoketa, Iowa.
The recall was issued after E. coli infections in two people may have been associated with beef bought in Monroe and Sister Bay, Wisconsin.

Maquoketa Area Community Foundation approves grants

The Maquoketa Area Community Foundation Board of Directors approved
$12,500 in grants to five area non-profit projects.
Some of the grants went to
The Maquoketa Parks & Recreation Commission,
$1,000 to assist in the clean-up and repair of Little Bear Park.
The Maquoketa Community Cupboard,
$2,000 to help continue providing food to more than 500 area families.
