Hello everyone,
I went to the “organizing for Change” rally that was held Sunday, Oct. 7. in the Maquoketa Middle School Gym to see and hear Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clintons campaign speach.
There seemed to be around 300 attending, and the gym was really really hot and uncomfortable.

The Maquoketa Area Community Foundation Board of Directors approved
$12,500 in grants to five area non-profit projects.
Some of the grants went to
The Maquoketa Parks & Recreation Commission,
$1,000 to assist in the clean-up and repair of Little Bear Park.
The Maquoketa Community Cupboard,
$2,000 to help continue providing food to more than 500 area families.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama returns to campaign in the Dubuque area Thursday, Sept. 13, scheduling town hall meetings in Maquoketa, Anamosa and Dubuque.
In Maquoketa, the Obama forum takes place at 10 a.m. at First Ward Park, and in Anamosa, his appearance takes place at 1:45 p.m. at Lawrence Community Center.

The state is giving $4.8 million in grants to three Iowa tourism projects.
The Vision of Iowa Board approved the funding at its meeting in Decorah.
The board also gave $150,000 to the Maquoketa River Water Trail in Jones County.
Governor Chet Culver says the projects will encourage Iowans to “dream big” and spur economic growth.

I noticed construction is still going on at Maquoketa new Pickle Barrell Subs
downtown. I notices Boothes all set up, so it must be close to opening soon.
