Maquoketa recreation center to take YMCA name
Posted on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 by davidvoy
Maquoketa City Council members have changed the name of the Area Recreation Center to the Maquoketa Area Family YMCA.
The city has contracted with the Scott County Family YMCA to manage the center, which is under construction at Summit and Matteson streets. The facility will have an indoor pool, gym and fitness center when it opens in October or November.

dont get me wrong the ymca is a good thing for this town. I am just concerned for the families who might not be able to afford this. this town needs something for kids to do to keep them off the streets and out of trouble. what will the fees be will there be a grant for families who cant afford this. if not where are these kids suppose to go where will they swim and exercise.does anyone know what the fees are
Babie:
I also hope that the fees will be reasonable for all families.
I am not sure i think its around $35 for a family per month is what they are looking at for fees
Is there an actual opening date for the rec center? Or any more information anywhere about it? Thanks!
After leaving Maquoketa I worked six years with the YMCA. First in Clinton and then Dubuque. If it’s to true YMCA standards than there will be income based scholarship memberships. Basically you show proof of income and they then determine membership rates. In the past it was generally about half of the regular membership price. This is great but if your hurting for money it can still be painful as they would require 1/2 at the time of sign up and the other 1/2 the following month. I don’t know if they will follow this, or if that is still how that pans out, it’s been a few years.
$35 a month for a family membership is not bad at all considering we paid $50 in Bettendorf and $60 in Dubuque. Varying Y’s charge different amounts for initial sign-up which can be painful to the pocketbook too.
Again I don’t know what they are going to do in Maquoketa. From what I have heard in the past they are only going to be a YMCA in name…whatever that means.
I will say it’s very disappointing that there is so little information on this. My daughter just told me that it is having it’s open house in two weeks (she still lives in MAQ) so I came online to try and find out membership info for her and I find nothing.
As a resident of Maq. and member of Maquoketa YMCA, the opening was Oct. 29 of 2007 and open house Dec. 1st. Thanks for this blog! I came across it trying to find the number of Maq. YMCA…they have child care now, housed in the OLD community care center (which has seen its better days) and with little ones I must find time to entertain them while working out.
What is the cost for children without a membership?
